Pharaoh's Tomb is the first in George Broussard's classic Nevada Smith series. They're action-puzzle games wherein you take the role of Smith, a blatant ripoff on Indiana Jones who likes to go around robbing tombs. The story is great: you're jealous of Jones' prestige and determined to beat him to your greatest find, Pharaoh's Tomb.

Gameplay consists of running around levels, dodging or spearing monsters, jumping over obstacles, and grabbing treasure like the greedy little bastard you are. Each level has a series of keys you must obtain to work your way to the exit (original, no?). The levels are cleverly done and entertaining, but the braindead controls (you can choose between Ctrl and Alt or left shift and right shift to move your character) make gameplay a bit difficult.

I used to play this game over and over back in elementary school on my brand-new 386 machine (which a certain someone bought off me for $10 or $15 last year). Actually really liked the fact that left-shift was "go left" and right-shift was "go right". I hadn't been playing games for very long (I actually thought Wolf3D was impossible on easy mode), so having either hand rest on its respective move button with the jump key (spacebar) squarely between the two seemed intuitive. At the time.

Despite some problems, the puzzles are really great. I'd spend a long time on each level, even though they were never more than a screen in size. That's how challenging the puzzles were.

Great game. Get it.

Run-time error

This game probably won't work for you unless you've got a really old computer. All it brings up for me is a run-time error, unfortunately.
