Halloween Harry is an amazingly generic side-scroller, featuring a guy who runs through various buildings shooting aliens: original, eh?
There are a couple original bits: the flamethrower is pretty cool as far as weapons go, and jetpacks are always groovy. You also get to use nifty vending machines to get new weapons. The first time I played, though, I saved all my weapons except the flamethrower for fighting the boss; as it turns out, though, the only weapon you can use against him is the flamethrower. (I suppose I missed the part in the introductory sequence where they warn you that the alien leader is immune to nuclear blasts, missiles, and lasers, but not fire.)
As far as action scrollers go, Halloween Harry is pretty good; it was the first scroller I saw that supported 256-color parallaxing graphics, which were done pretty well. Overall, though, the game is fun but forgettable.

Okay ...This game in itself is a calssic timepiece, thus it does belong here; just like it should on EVERBODIES HD or at least a backup on floppies, CD or ZIPDrive. Amazing as it seems, it di not get the best of reviews except for at the immediate time of its release.
HH derves to be credited for one of the best Apogee games (next to Raptor ... that was Apogee right?) for being one of the best SS 256 colored games. Too bad I missed finding a copy of it in full ver that was not SW. Still can't ... doubt any1 ever will ....

"Halloween Harry" was later released as "Alien Carnage" by Apogee, possibly due to the complete wussiness of the former name."Alien Carnage" is the exact same game, except that the episodes are in a different order. Apogee's official statement as of 1994 was that although "Harry" was still considered shareware, they would prefer the "Carnage" title to be circulated. So to all of you who downloaded Harry, you're probably pissing off someone working at Apogee in 1994... well, probably not.
