This is the perfect pinball game.

I suppose I should expand on that thought, huh? Well, the graphics are smooth and highly detailed SVGA. The sound effects are cool but even better is Robert Allen's amazing musical score. Android, the table that comes with the shareware version, is one of my favorite tables of all time. I used to play this game for hours and hours. I would get together at the house of my friend with the fastest computer and we would play Epic Pinball from dusk to dawn.

Simply the best.

On the State of Classicgaming in Spain

I have searched Spain. I have stalked the blackest of alleys, the nerdiest of grottoes, and the largest of software retail stores however, I have yet to encounter one game worthy of classicgames.org.

I see The Sims. I see Rainbow Six>. I do not see Boppin. Or Epic Pinball.

But speaking of Epic Pinball, I have a pinball-related story to relate to all of our readers.

I was hanging around the restaurant district in Lisbon when I stumbled upon an arcade. The first thing I noticed was interesting enough: a bunch of hacked arcade games. Numbering at 8, they were in their characteristic, unadorned, uniform cabinets of simple plywood, with home-made controls on the front-bottom panel. Ms. Pac Man and some other recognizable titles were there, but the most interesting was a cabinet with a game that was obviously written by the people who bootlegged the other machines: it was a simple puzzle game whose distinguishing mark was that your avatar was a movie hero of the ī80s (I witnessed the eternal dialectical process of Rambo vs. Robocop).

But in the back were four pinball machines. Three of them sucked (card-game based machines are not among my favorites). The fourth was "Hook", based on the Robin Williams / Dustin Hoffman remake of Peter Pan. Anyhow, the premise was wimpy but the pinball was great. When I finished after wasting several hundred escudos, an old man came out of a corner of the arcade and asked me in Portuguese (I donīt speak it, so it was a bit of trouble understanding): "So, you like that game, huh?" He seemed proud to find a young man such as myself so involved in pinball. I was proud. I had done him right.

THE END

Not playing well

My computer doesn't like this game, not the two I got on CD. Any suggestions so that I can play these like I used to on my old comp?!? The ball and flippers move really slowly and I can't make a lot of ramps since the ball just seems so slow and heavy. Then the ball will get "caught" in some sort of cycle on the program and I can't play anymore. In Cyborgirl, it's off to the left side for Tense Deck it'll shoot it out, but it won't go up high enough and just keep falling back into the hole to be shot out again. Then in Enigma, it'll take the beta ramp, but get lost in it and the screen will just keep moving up and down and my ball won't exit the ramp. I have Windows XP. Any tips?
